Que Pasa Guys,
I don’t know about you guys but when it comes to exams I find the need for a “de-stressor” to take my mind off revision and exams and here in Treforest I can find that during ‘Open Mic Night’ at ‘Barinis’.
‘Barinis’ is one of the most popular bars for both students and locals in Treforest and is home to a weekly gathering in the form of the open mic night. It is run by a student who opens and closes the night, as well as a few of his friends and some locals.
Everyone can get up and sing no matter what level of singing they are at. The evening is a very relaxing atmosphere and drinks are available at pretty decent prices too.
Many types of songs are covered from recent hits to some old classics alongside a few other songs from the likes of ‘Tenacious D’. Tom, the guy who runs it, is extremely talented and has a number of friends that get involved who can play various instruments, making it more than just karaoke.
If you like music then you are bound to like open mic night. I myself, am a huge fan of music, listening to it at all times where I can. For me, open mic night is a great social gathering where I can enjoy music and the company of my friends to really forget about what is going on at university, especially during exams.
If music isn’t quite how you take your minds off it all, there are plenty of other things going on such as quiz night in ‘The Pick and Shovel’ and ‘Woods Bar’ or climbing at the university’s sports centre, the ‘Summit Centre’ in Treharris or at ‘Boulders’ in Cardiff Bay; to name but a few things.
Be sure to look up the surrounding area of university for whatever it is you do to take your mind off of things, I’m sure there is something for everyone!
Until next time.
