Que Pasa Peeps,
So not much going on these days, many of the recent days have been spent writing up revision notes for the upcoming events. I have the pleasure of sitting seven exams this year; sorry did I say pleasure I meant horror. Still to be expected I guess.
Anyway, university events! There are so many different events that we as students can get involved in, for the social side, as part of a hobby or even getting paid!
First I want to talk about clubs and societies. During Freshers week there is, of course, the Freshers Fayre which is held by the student union. Here you can not only grab tremendous amounts of freebies but also have a gander at the various clubs and societies that you can join. These are groups of people sharing a similar interest in a particular type of activity or subject.
For example, there are societies for debating, forensics, psychology, anime and manga, gaming, climbing, swimming and water polo, to name but a few; there really are a big number of societies to get involved in! Check them out here.
If there isn’t a society that takes your fancy but you want to get one started you can! Simply gather at least 5 people with similar interests and who are keen and get your society proposal to the union! Check out this link for more details on starting up a new society.
Within each club/society there are social gatherings in the form of nights out, day trips to places (i.e. climbing), some competitions, guest speakers on subjects, and so on!
Definitely worth joining these to widen your social circle and enhance your university student experiences!!
I myself, became part of the climbing club which got me some new friends, club hoodies (can’t help it, it is cool to own a specialised hoody), a weekly gathering at the pub, weekly use of the climbing wall in the university’s sports centre, and excursions to some outdoor climbing locations during the holidays.
Until next time.
